This past Wednesday we finished the fourth class in our first series on HTML/CSS. This was our first pass, and we learned a lot about our process and our audience. We knew this would be an iterative process from the beginning, our intentions are to improve each time with the knowledge we garnered on the last pass. We’re doing our post-mortem as a group next Wednesday, and we are sending out a survey to the ladies to see how their experience was.
We were able to attract a great group of ladies. Some successful entrepreneur, a mother/daughter team, and plethora of different professions being represented. We were able to get through most of the material. I found that getting a good tempo was difficult as some content was processed faster than others. I’m hoping that we can learn from this and find better ways to present more challenging subjects.
We were able to get through a lot of material. Everyone got to make their own pages and upload them to the GDI server. We got pretty comfortable with many new concepts. It was a great experience to see people learning about development for the first time (for some, this wasn’t new stuff).
At the conclusion of the last class there were essential parts of HTML/CSS that we didn’t have time to cover, for instance some of the more difficult positioning properties. We will be getting together with the ladies in smaller groups to get these topics covered and make sure they got what they wanted from the classes.
We will be opening up the next series of classes over the next weeks. There are some changes to the line up that will be announced as well, so stay tuned! Below are some pictures from class.
